Mike Yuill was commissioned a 2d Lt in the U.S. Air Force through the Air Force ROTC program at Texas Christian University in May 1984, and went on active duty beginning January 13, 1985. Lt Yuill next completed Undergraduate Pilot Training and was awarded his pilot wings at Laughlin AFB, Texas, in May 1986, followed by B-52 Stratofortress Combat Crew Training at Castle AFB, California, from June to November 1986. He served as a B-52H pilot with the 325th Bomb Squadron of the 92nd Bomb Wing at Fairchild AFB, Washington, From November 1986 to November 1989, and then attended Pilot Instructor Training at Randolph AFB, Texas, from January 1990 to May 1991. His next assignment was as a T-38 Talon Instructor Pilot with the 87th Flying Training Squadron at Laughlin AFB from April 1991 to May 1993, followed by B-1B Lancer Combat Crew Training at Dyess AFB, Texas, from May to November 1993. He served as a B-1B pilot with the 7th Bomb Wing at Dyess AFB from November 1993 to July 1996, and then as Chief of the B-1 Stan/Eval Branch with Headquarters 8th Air Force at Barksdale AFB, Louisiana, from July 1996 to February 1999. Maj Yuill's next assignment was with the 28th Operations Support Squadron and 28th Operations Group at Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota, where he served as Assistant Director of Operations, as Chief of Stan/Eval, and as an Operations Officer from March 1999 to February 2002. He served as Director of Time-critical Targeting, as an Operations Officer, and as Commander of the 612th Combat Operations Squadron at Davis-Monthan AFB, Arizona, from February 2002 to December 2006, and then as Deputy Commander of the 612th Air and Space Operations Center at Davis-Monthan from December 2006 to July 2008. During this time, Col Yuill served as Chief of Combat Operations with the Combined Air and Space Operations Center in Southwest Asia in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom from March to June 2004. His final assignment was as Commander of the 28th Mission Support Group at Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota, from August 2008 until his retirement from the Air Force on August 6, 2010. Col Yuill is a Command Pilot and flew over 3,600 flying hours during his Air Force career.
