Chris Fanning was born on March 3, 1945, in Norman, Oklahoma. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on November 29, 1963, and after completing basic training, he was trained as an Electrician's Mate at NTC San Diego, California. EMFN Fanning then served as an Electrican's Mate aboard the destroyer USS Jenkins (DD-447) from November 1964 until his honorable discharge from the Navy on November 21, 1967, having deployed during this time to Southeast Asia several times between 1964 and 1966. Chris Fanning died on April 10, 2011.
