Richard Greer was born on February 17, 1958, in Pololato, California. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on November 24, 1976, and completed basic training at NTC Orlando, Florida, in January 1977. After completing Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training with Class 099 at NAB Coronado, California, Petty Officer Greer served with SEAL Team TWO at NAB Little Creek, Virginia, until he was killed in a parachute training accident at the Suffolk Airport in Suffolk, Virginia, on May 3, 1980. Richard Greer was buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in Oakville, Missouri.
