Earl Hepburn was born on February 23, 1929, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy Reserve on February 4, 1947, and was activated for the Korean War on September 21, 1950. Fireman Hepburn served aboard the stores ship USS Pictor (AF-54) from September 1950 until his honorable discharge from the Navy on June 21, 1951. Earl and his wife retired to Hammond, Louisiana.
