Harry McAfoose was born on May 6, 1917, in Indiana, Pennsylvania. He was drafted into the U.S. Army on November 16, 1943, and after completing basic and infantry training, he was assigned to Company B, 331st Infantry Regiment, 83rd Infantry Division. PFC McAfoose participated in the Normandy Invasion and was killed in action while his unit was capturing the airfield at Lebourgneuf, France, on August 13, 1944. He is buried at the Brittany American Cemetery in St. James, France. At the time of his death, Harry was married to the former Helen Ducan and they had one daughter, Patty.
